Abortion


Abortion

One of the “hottest” and most controversial subjects in the news these days is the subject of abortion, the act of extracting a fetus from the uterus of a woman prior to its birth. In fact, the subject of abortion has been an issue with us for years, even at times, a determining factor in our elections. Women protest that laws outlawing abortion rob them of their natural right to control their own bodies. Then there are those who look to religion as prohibitive of abortion, serving only to exacerbate the issue, complicating it further. So what do we do? What is right? What is wrong?

I believe this. There are legitimate reasons for a woman to have an abortion. There are, also, illegitimate reasons. Abortion is not the real issue. The real issue is murder; and that is plainly covered in the Holy Bible—The Ten Commandments. Abortion not only has to do with the rights of a pregnant mother, it has to do with the rights of an innocent, unborn child who cannot speak for himself, a fact more often than not neglected. Once a human has life, he (or she) has inalienable rights.

I do not believe in abortion except when the life of the mother is in jeopardy. There are those who will add babies resulting from rape and incest to this, and there are still others who want the right to abort unwanted babies at will. I don’t agree with that either. Neither do I believe women are being denied their right to control their bodies.
I’m an old man. I’ve seen a lot of streetcars go by over many years. Trust me. I understand the difficulties in what I’m saying. We are people. We are human, and sexual passion is an overwhelming force with which objective logic is incompatible; but women are not being denied their right to control their body. In fact they are intimately involved in every decision in the process of their pregnancies. They are involved in deciding as to whether they have sex or don’t have sex. They can always say, “No”! If their decision is “Yes”, they can insist on birth control, either by using it themselves or demand the use of such by their partner. If, after sex, pregnancy ensues, they can decide between placing their child for adoption or keep it. In cases of rape or incest, the same decision is also available. Adoption is the answer.

If abortion is considered, we must determine when life begins? The Bible tells us, “For the life of a creature is in the blood…” Leviticus 17:11. Perhaps the first beat of the heart is the answer.

In the final analysis, I believe unwanted babies should be placed for adoption. It is the right thing to do. It is the moral thing to do. It is the patriotic thing to do. There is no limit to the demand for children in our society. It is a matter of fact that our people are producing less and less babies, and our population is diminishing—thus my use of the word patriotism. Sex is one of the most desirable aspects of our life. Not only does it contribute to the reproduction of our population, it supplies us with love and affection, the one thing in life more desired by the human species than anything else.

In closing, I must add. We should not criminalize abortion in this nation under any circumstance. Our prisons are full enough, and we would do better in spending our taxpayer dollars to help support the babies we want to destroy.

Freedom


Freedom

Your freedom ends where my freedom begins; or, conversely, my freedom ends where yours begins. Our nation is a nation of freedom, and we want to stay that way. As such, there is no room for anarchy—absolutely none. Our inner desires notwithstanding, we cannot do as we please and should not. The more there are of us, i.e. the more our population grows, the less freedom we can have and the more regulation necessary to protect us from one another is required. This is a fact. It is also a fact that with freedom goes responsibility, without which, our freedom is lost, relinquished by us to those who would steal it from us—not unlike our unwittingly leaving our purse in a shopping cart at the super market. We are surrounded by thieves ready and willing to steal from us. This is the reality of our lives.

And where am I going with this? Our nation has begun a downhill course; we are under attack; and we need and must have increased responsibility by our people before it is too late. A great proportion of us are, in effect, deaf, dumb, and blind to what is happening to us and what is causing it. Constantly bombarded with false information, propaganda, and erroneous bias, the political knowledge of our citizens is severely lacking and their ability to analyze and evaluate issues, causes, and effects, suffers accordingly. Sadly, many, if not most, of our people from the President of the United States of America on down to the janitor in the local bar appear to not even know the difference between a Congressman and a Representative or a Senator, including the Congressmen themselves and the media—something as simple as that.

So that you will understand what I’m talking about, I’ll explain. Article I, Section 1 of our Constitution clearly states that the Legislative Branch of our Congress is one of three branches of our government, the other two being the Executive Branch, as specified in Article II, and the Judicial Branch as specified in Article III, and consists of two branches of its own, The House of Representatives and the United States Senate. The official title of a member of the House of Representatives is Representative. The official title of a member of the Senate is Senator. A Representative is no more, no less a Congressman than a Senator, yet I am yet to hear a Senator referred to as Congressman. This may not seem important. In fact, it may even sound petty, but our lack of knowledge about how our government works is so prevalent that even something as minor as this is important. One would think the media would catch on, at least, but they just keep on.

Now, to return to the main thrust of our subject, in addition to the need for an increase in the knowledge and responsibility of our people, like it or not, there is a dire need for increased regulation by our government. The rampant abuse of our systems and institutions throughout our nation by those in power, who, under the guise of preaching the evils of government preach otherwise, denouncing regulation and dictating that we do just the opposite. Greed and avarice permeates our culture and undermines the individual freedoms of all. Only the intellectual strength of our people and their responsible commitment to government can save us—by doing “what’s right”.

The overall good of our nation isn’t just about the good of the Corporatocracy and the Power Elite, the rich and powerful who really run our country through their lobbyists and vast amounts of money, it’s also about “We the people”. Don’t forget us. But, if we don’t stand up for ourselves, if we don’t go to work and fulfill our responsibility in governing, no one else will.

And, what is it we should do to this end? First, we should vote—every last one of us. There are those who have fought and died for that right, and we should preserve it. Next, we should look, listen, read, study, and know the who, what, and why of what is happening around us—not relying on our opinions, biases, and prejudices, but dealing with the facts. Just remember, there is the seen and the unseen to everything. Every action has unseen side-effects. Look for them as they just may affect you.

Next, we should educate ourselves and insure that our children are educated as well. We need education in order to qualify for employment; but we also need education just in order to live, to comprehend, to protect ourselves from those who would take advantage of us—to understand the world, our government, our people, how everything works. In order to facilitate equal education to everybody, and, in turn, equal opportunity, I strongly feel that the financing of public education should be changed from financing by district (based on property values) to equal financing of all districts within each state, giving the poor equal opportunity for success.We should also return discipline to the schools.



Arguably, in years past, people could live decently without education and not even miss it. That isn’t true anymore. I just heard on TV news. There are six million people looking for jobs—even in these times of full employment. Yet there are seven million jobs going unfilled because there are not those with the necessary technical ability to fill them. With the highest standard of living of any nation on earth or in the history of civilization, notwithstanding the fact that our average degree of prosperity for the working man has been going downhill since the seventies, we cannot continue to think “my mother and father only had an eighth grade education, and they did all right, I don’t need to continue on in school”. That’s “bunk”. We need to go to school through four years of college or through vocational school. In fact, I think, and this is just my opinion, we should require the first two years of college even if we choose vocational school, with special emphasis on reading, writing, mathematics, English, and history, including world history as well as American, i.e. Pre K through 14. In fact, we should legislate this into law, making “dropping out” illegal, perhaps even going so far as to conscript them into the military and educating them there. I’m not sure. There may be a more desirable solution. I just know our country can no longer afford to follow its present course. People—all of us—must be educated. Gangs must be quelled. Division among us must be abated, we must unite, we must all get along and work toward a common goal.

We must understand. Our country is going downhill. We are under attack. China, India, Brazil, Russia, (aka the BRICK nations) and others are rising up from their third world status. Our nation’s status as five percent of the world’s population consuming twenty-five percent of the world’s resources is not going to stand. Others want their share. Our nation is going to have to work harder to compete. In other words, we’re going to have to get off our mentally lazy asses (I don’t want to get thrown out of church, so I won’t go further). The underclass of our society must be eliminated by “coming up” with those of a higher standard of living. 

Just remember what you have seen as our nation has progressed into this economy we call “globalization”. Economically, as the standard of living in other nations, i.e. India, China, Brazil, etc., has risen, that of our nation is edging downward. If you don’t see it, look. It’s there to be seen, if you only will, but you must be mentally receptive. An economy is not unlike a container of water. It holds its level as long as it is contained. Plug it into another container which is empty, and it will seek its own level. You saw this happen to us when we “went global”. We have become "more plugged in" to the economy of others. Just a side comment, did “we the people” have a say in that? Or was it just another decision of the Corporatocracy and Power Elite which controls us and controls our lives.

Also, we need to get our healthcare in order. An unacceptable percentage of our people are without adequate healthcare and everyday it seems to be getting worse. Costs are getting higher, people are losing their insurance, and the massive amounts of expense are flooding our deficit, increasing our national debt. I submit that we need single payer Universal Healthcare for all, modeled after our present Medicare plan and self-funded as is presently our Social Security program, not affecting our national deficit and, therefore, national debt.

There are those who say there is not enough money to do all these things. B.S. Don’t you believe that. Back in the Fifties, Sixties, and Seventies, our nation was enjoying the highest standard of living in history, our income taxes were the highest, ranging to a personal income tax of eighty-nine or ninety percent, and we did fine, even paying off our World War II expense in the process. So did the wealthy. Let me once again remind you. When Jimmy Carter left office, our national debt was all but eliminated—down to $0.9 Trillion dollars. Now, our national debt is $22.0 Trillion, give or take, and income taxes (for the rich and the corporations) are the lowest in decades. Sad, there’s enough money. If everybody paid taxes according to their ability to pay, gave more thought to the wellbeing of the nation and the people rather than the furtherance of their own bank accounts and egos, there is enough money. I really become angry at those corporations and individuals who give up their citizenship so as to reduce their taxes or, worse yet, not to pay taxes at all. Also, as we take into account the people on welfare, perhaps we should take into account, too, those corporations on corporate welfare. Just look and count those dollars. Also, look at the income taxes currently being paid by Hedge Fund owners—Willard Mitt Romney, for example.

I want to make one last comment. I’m not against the corporations and the rich. The more enlightened and blessed of our nation are absolutely necessary. We need the most talented and able people we can get to manage our government. No offense is intended to anyone, but the uneducated, untalented of our people are not qualified to “run” our great nation. I know that. Our Founding Fathers knew that. We need those people who are blessed with greater talents.

The problem arises in their abuses. Businesses, corporations, were created by man to serve man. Man was not created to serve them. Profit is not the ultimate goal in life. It certainly is not the purpose of a business; but that is where this has come to. When asked, almost everyone will tell you the purpose of a business is to make a profit. It’s not! The purpose of a business is to provide a quality product or service to man—to serve man. Profit is absolutely necessary for a business to survive. So are its employees, the utility bill, property taxes, and on and on. Profit is an expense of doing business without which the business will not survive, just the same as everything else. Profit is the purpose of the financier and the stockholder, the owner; but, as to the business? It is an expense. I’ve said this many times and in many ways before to no avail; but, it’s important. It’s important because this difference in thinking has affected the attitudes and actions of business management as to how they manage, affecting the governing of our government and the impact on our people.

Freedom, Responsibility, Purpose—All contribute to forming a more perfect Union, establishing Justice, insuring domestic Tranquility, providing for the common defense, promoting the general Welfare, and securing the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, the Preamble to our Constitution.

Donald Trump


Donald Trump

Oh ye who continue to support this president, Donald Trump, when who he is, what he is about, his obvious incompetence, and what he is doing to the detriment of our country, you know not what you are doing. Our sovereign nation is a democracy, a Democratic Republic, if you will. As a citizen, you have, and should have, every right to participate in the governance and determination of the direction of our nation; but, as they say, be careful of that for which you ask. You may get it. This man is not qualified to be the leader and chief executive officer of this our country, one of if not the greatest empire on earth—the greatest in the history of civilization.

He is not a leader. That’s not just the opinion of this writer. It’s a fact. Take an honest look and you will see. As divided as we were when he entered office, we are even more divided now; and that division is continued at an even more rapid pace. A leader inspires people, brings them together to achieve a common goal. He motivates people to follow his leadership because they wish—not because they are “told”. A leader is not a dictator. Our illustrious president, Donald Trump, on the other hand, serves only those who comprise his hard core base and then only to serve the personal interests of himself and his family—and he does this openly. He doesn’t even try to hide it. He certainly hasn’t served you. Just look. He’s like a bull in a china shop. Think! The President of the United States of America, the greatest country on earth, must be a leader, a leader of the people, all the people—not a divider. Donald Trump is not a leader. This should be a prime factor in your thinking when you go to vote.

He is intellectually challenged. He is not knowledgeable as is usually expected of a person holding a position of presidential magnitude. He graduated from one of the best business schools in the world, The Wharton School, with a BS degree in economics (ref. Wikipedia). Yet he shows little or no knowledge of how a business is really run or how an economy really works. He has a short attention span and makes decisions from the seat of his pants. We are also told he doesn’t read, showing a complete lack of intellectual curiosity. He rejects or minimizes his daily briefings, preferring to secure his knowledge of events from the daily news and elsewhere. I saw and heard him say in his own words on television that he believes the Russians know more than his own intelligence people.

Just look at how he is “running up” our national deficit in light of the stupendous national debt we now have with no plan for the future, spending money as if there is no tomorrow. As I indicated in a previous post to this blog, President Obama was lowering our deficit as our economy recovered from the economic crisis and financial collapse he inherited. He was leading us back to normal. He had a plan. He knew what he was doing. Donald Trump has no such plan. He has no real strategy. He is operating from the seat of his pants. Now, our deficit and our debt once again is on the increase with no end in sight (except for some farfetched notion in the back of our illustrious leader’s mind that he is going to take it out of our [yours and mine] Social Security and Medicare). Remember this when you go to the polls in 2020.

Look at his many bankruptcies—not one, not two, but several. Look at the many lawsuits against him. Also, keep in mind that, initially, his money was given to him. Yes, given; and not a small amount was derived from unpaid taxes of his father (my view is that all too often, like father, like son). It’s a matter of record—and in his father’s footsteps, though not as successful, he carries on, one disaster after another. Donald Trump isn’t just a poor guy with some bad luck, he’s a loser elected by us. He’s the President of the United States. And through his leadership of this nation he is making us losers too. The President of the United States of America, the greatest country on earth, the greatest empire in the history of civilization, not only must be a leader, he must be knowledgeable. This too should be a prime factor in your thinking when you go to vote.

He is not a competent manager. He operates from the seat of his pants with little or no strategic planning, making decisions and responding to questions “off the cuff”, one cause of his many lies. He dictates. He is a dictator and a bully. He cannot—he is unable to competently delegate authority to subordinate managers and coordinate their efforts for the overall good of the nation. The turnover of those who report to him is the highest in the history of our nation. Presently, many of those positions are temporary rather than permanent due to the many firings and resignations among them. The President of the United States of America, the greatest country on earth, the greatest empire in the history of civilization, not only must be a knowledgeable leader, but also, he must be competent. Donald Trump is not! Remember this when you vote.

Donald Trump is a showman, a promoter. He is an entertainer, and he’s good at it. You don’t believe this? Just look. Take note of how many voted for him. He constantly crisscrosses the country, conducting political rallies. It seems he spends, more time campaigning and playing golf than doing his job of conducting the business of the nation. To quote Lindsey Graham (I saw and heard him say this on television news), “Donald Trump is a race baiting, xenophobic, bigot. He doesn't represent my party; he doesn't represent the values that the men and women who wear the uniform are fighting for". I must say, however, although Lindsey Graham did say this, yesterday on television, he challenged his own credibility when he “flip flopped” and, in defense of Donald Trump, Jr., declared that, contrary to the Constitution of the United States of America, the subpoenas of Donald Trump, Jr. by the House of Representatives should be ignored.

In addition, I believe Donald Trump is a severely mentally sick man, a mega narcissistic, a personality disorder “characterized largely by an overinflated sense of self-importance, typically caused by unbalanced parental valuation during childhood” (Definition right out of Wiktionary).

In my view, Donald Trump is not qualified to be president of our great nation—not the kind we want anyway. In thinking about this, one should be mindful that this is not a Republican vs. Democrat issue. In my view, he is neither. Donald Trump is a threat to our country. He is a threat to you. He is a threat to me. He is a threat to both the Republican and the Democratic Party. We should vote him out of office before he destroys us all, before he destroys you, before he destroys me, before he destroys our country. Believe me. He is not going to “make America Great Again”. It's not in him.

The Top Priority of Our Government


Washington Journal, an early morning program of C-SPAN, today asked listeners to call in with their opinions as to what should be the top priority of the government of the United States of America to which the many answers regarded a variety of problems and issues neither of which, in and of themselves, is our top priority.

The top priority of the government of the United States of America is and should be as specified in the Preamble to the United States Constitution:


       We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union,   
establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defence, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America.



More specifically, this means to me that the top priority of the government of the United States of America is the governance of our nation and our people in the best long-term interests of all. To this end, our government should be, as was said by President Abraham Lincoln at Gettysburg in 1863, a “government of the people, by the people, for the people”—certainly not a government of and by the Corporatocracy and Power Elite which has taken over our country ever since. Whether we want to admit it or not, our nation and our people are governed by the Corporatocracy and Power Elite, the biggest threat to the Democracy and future of our nation today, which, it seems, no one is willing to face. Our elected representatives are interested in the votes of the people only until Election Day. Once Election Day has passed, the interests of the people fade into the background and the profits of Mammon take the forefront (Christians will recall what Jesus had to say about that). Is it any wonder why nothing ever seems to get done?

As we read the Preamble to our Constitution, we can readily see that our Union is far from perfect. Justice is badly in need of reform, and “we the people” are anything but tranquil. In fact, we haven’t been more insecure since the Civil War, i.e. the imminent threat of Nuclear War, our political dissension, and the proliferation of guns; the general Welfare of our people and our Democracy is under attack by the Corporatocracy and Power Elite as documented by an ever increasing difference in the distribution of income and wealth between the rich and the poor. For the past forty years, the rich have become richer, the poor, poorer; and our national debt has risen from $0.9 Trillion in 1980 to $21.5 Trillion in 2018 —our national deficit from a surplus of $0.2 Trillion in 2000 to a deficit of $1 Trillion in 2019 (President Obama inherited a national debt of $10 Trillion, deficit of $1.4 Trillion and a collapsed economy in 2009. By the time he left office in 2017, he reduced the Deficit to $0.6 Trillion along with a recovering economy).

Needless to say, as the facts of the matter are so obvious to any thinking and open mind, our nation is now staggering under the leadership of a mentally and intellectually challenged non-leader, who, from the advent of his administration has contributed to an increased dissension of our people, alienation of our allies, and impetus to our enemies. Our government under current leadership nowhere nearly approaches attainment of the top priority of our national government as indicated by the Preamble to our United States Constitution, and this man, our chosen leader, is in no way coming close to helping the matter.

In closing this, I am once again compelled to remind the reader that a Democracy, i.e. a representative government “of the people, by the people, for the people” will ultimately fail along with the freedom it portends, without the participation of the people. With freedom goes responsibility; and responsibility demands that “We the people” are thoroughly informed, i.e. ”know what you are talking about”, know the facts, and don’t just form opinions based on emotions. Responsibility also demands that we vote.
