Whatever political party yours may be; whatever opinions you
might have about the current shutdown of our government and any and all
relative matters pertaining to the subject, including yours and my views concerning
these matters notwithstanding, this shutdown is an abomination to our country
and our people for which there is no excuse—absolutely none!
Defined in a
slightly different manner, it is a comprehensive dereliction of duty by our
government as a whole beginning with the failure of our Senate (there is a bill
in the Senate currently approved by the House of Representatives, currently on
hold by the Senate Majority Leader) to bring to the floor for a vote and subsequently
forwarded to the president for his approval or rejection under the rules of The
Constitution of The United States of America (I’m confident I don’t need to
remind you. If rejected by the president, the bill will be returned to the
Senate for a final vote—override or defeat). And why is this bill on hold? The
answer is plain and simple, politics. For that reason and that reason only, our
people are suffering, a suffering that is growing more and more by the hour (a
real crises), while our democracy and our nation are becoming the laughing
stock of the world. We must resolve this crises and resolve it now!
When our government is operational once again, we must
immediately generate and pass legislation preventing this from ever happening
again.
There
is nothing written in our constitution which permits our legislative and
executive bodies to hold government employees hostage as pawns in negotiations
with one another. I am certain we have experts in accounting and the law who can make this
happen. If the crooks in our financial world, can run a business in “off
balance sheet accounting”, surely our government can find a way to allow our
government to “stay afloat” during our budgetary negotiations.
Enough is enough! Let’s “gitter done”!
